Telehealth for Pelvic Health: FAQs

Telehealth is an innovative way to deliver care to patients in the comfort of their own homes. Below, we answer some common questions about how telehealth works for pelvic floor therapy and sexual health services.

What Services Are Best Suited for Telehealth?

Telehealth works well for most pelvic floor diagnoses. This includes:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Bowel dysfunction
  • Sexual health concerns

However, Erectile Dysfunction (ED), hard flaccid syndrome, and prostatitis are better addressed through hands-on services, such as those planned for our upcoming Vitality Lounge.

Can Sexual Health Be Addressed Via Telehealth?

Absolutely! Sexual health is a focus of our practice. For issues like ED or lack of orgasm, we’re preparing to offer advanced treatments like the PRP shot (for ED) and the O-Shot (for women) through the Vitality Lounge.

Are Telehealth Services Available for Men, Women, and Children?

  • Adults (Men and Women): Telehealth is ideal for busy adults or those who live far from the clinic. It also offers a more affordable option—$200 per session versus $300 in-clinic.
  • Children: Telehealth is not ideal for children, as they often need more hands-on treatment and guidance.

What Therapy Isn’t Suitable for Telehealth?

Telehealth may not be the best option for:

  • Children
  • Patients who require significant direction or physical guidance during therapy

What Does the Telehealth Process Look Like?

  1. Medical Documents Review:
    • Patients send medical records, which the physical therapist (PT) reviews prior to the session.
  2. Virtual Consultation:
    • Using Zoom, the PT discusses medical history and identifies patterns of dysfunction.
    • Anatomical models are used to explain how different areas of the body relate to the condition.
  3. Self-Testing and Guided Exercises:
    • The PT guides the patient through self-tests to identify trigger points or tightness.
    • A personalized plan with daily routines and goals is created.
  4. Ongoing Support:
    • Weekly follow-ups assess progress and update the treatment plan.
    • Patients can email questions at any time for additional support.
    • Collaboration with doctors or personal trainers, if needed.

Benefits of Telehealth for Pelvic Health

  • Privacy: Ideal for patients uncomfortable visiting a clinic in person.
  • Time-Saving: Sessions last 1 hour, without travel time.
  • Affordable: At $200 per session, telehealth is a budget-friendly alternative to in-clinic care.
